Message from the Mayor James W. Danner, Sr.  and City Manager Kim Davis

The City of Hondo Management team have been closely monitoring and preparing for potential local impacts of the novel coronavirus (COVID 19) pandemic. Governor Greg Abbott declared all counties in Texas as Public Health Disaster Areas. Our team is in close communication and participates in daily briefings with Medina County health officials, the Texas Department of State Health Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We are also in contact with Medina Regional Hospital and Hondo ISD to stay abreast of their planning and offer assistance as needed.

The recent news of a positive test in Bexar County , although travel related, has given us a heightened sense of awareness of the potential severity of this situation. As a result, many City programs have been suspended at the Recreation Center, Golf Course and Hondo Public Library. There are some events that we will continue to monitor cases in Medina County and the surrounding areas before making any decisions to cancel or postpone. Please keep in mind, this is a rapidly evolving situation.

Our team will continue to make arrangements to avoid or minimize as much as possible any disruptions of City services. We’re planning for the contingency that some of our workforce may be affected, whether directly or indirectly. Maintaining uninterrupted police, public works and other essential services remain our top priority.  Our foremost concern is to protect the health and welfare of our community. All residents are urged to do their part in helping prevent the spread of COVID 19 by becoming familiar with ways to stop the spread of the virus through CDC recommendations. For more information on COVID 19, please visit the CDC website at www.CDC.gov/coronavirus. We will continue to share local information through our website (www.hondo-tx.org) and our Facebook account City of Hondo.
