The Hondo Police Department supports the Texas Legislatures enactment of Senate Bill 1074, which prohibits Racial Profiling in Texas and took effect on September 1, 2001. In May of 2017 the (Sandra Bland Act) was passed, see Senate Bill 1849. The Sandra Bland Act updated the requirements of the data collected from Officer's traffic stops.
The Hondo Police Department adapted by equipping Officers with electronic ticket writers while continuously working with our provider to be assure that all required data is being collected.
What is Racial Profiling? Racial Profiling is when a Law Enforcement Officer's initial action is based on an individual's race, ethnicity or national origin rather than on the individual's behavior or information identifying the individual as having engaged in criminal activity.
The Hondo Police Department administration demands that Officers of this Department adhere to the Codes and Ethics, Policies and the Oath of our Department, therefore we would like to provide citizens in our community with the contact information to submit any complaints in which they believe they were subjects of a Racial Profiling incident.
Administrators would also like to hear about any compliments that citizens may have regarding our Officers performance. Those comments may also be submitted via the contact information above.
Please see the links for further information on our yearly Racial Profiling Reports, our complaint process to include the finding results and more. Beginning from the year 2019 and after the Hondo Police Department will post the previous five years of Racial Profiling reports. Anyone who is in need of any later dated reports will need to submit and open records request form.
